After the Goldrush: Studies in Negative Capability

A selection of paintings from my senior capstone (or thesis) show. The show, After the Goldrush: Studies in Negative Capability was shown in the Stambaugh Studio Gallery at Ohio Northern University. The landscapes are explorations in the idea of Negative Capability, coined by the Romantic poet John Keats, which describes being open to mystery and uncertainty. I see the ominous, looming landscapes as metaphors for the uncertainty of my life, and of many other people's lives right now. I feel it is important to be in the uncertainty, embracing life. Its scary, but also beautiful.
